Due sono i venti dominanti sul Lago di Garda : l'Ora da sud ed Il peler da nord

Il peler

Vento che soffia da nord, dovuto allo sbalzo termico durante la notte tra la valle in cui giace il lago e le montagne del trentino alle sue spalle. Inizia a soffiare tra mezzanotte e le due e continua fino a tarda mattina. In genere otre al salto termico è necessario che ci sia bel tempo (cielo terso e nessuna nuvola) così da rinforzare con il sorgere del sole man mano che la terra si riscalda. Si esce fra le 5 e le 7 fino al calo attorno alle 11.
La forte escursione termica necessaria può verificarsi anche durante la giornata stessa; il caso tipico: a seguito di un forte temporale estivo si ha un notevole abbassamento della temperatura sull’alto lago, seguito nel giro di pochissime ore da un’immediata schiarita.
L’intensità varia dai 20/25 fino a 30 nodi, le condizioni possono variare dal freestyle con la 5.3mq al wave on-shore con chop per saltare e vento molto forte.
Fatta eccezione per la parte trentina del lago, dove il vento tende ad essere molto rafficato e con angolo variabile, entrambe le sponde offrono vari spot per uscire.
Il peler classico, quello del mattino e d’intensità media, conviene sempre nei due spot più conosciuti : Malcesine (sponda orientale, provincia di Verona) e il Pra (sponda occidentale, provincia di Brescia), spostandosi più a sud il vento tende a diminuire d’intensità e regolarità sotto costa. Può succedere che per la particolare intensità o per le condizioni atmosferiche, il vento sia molto più disteso in basso lago. Nel periodo estivo le giornate migliori si hanno dopo un calo della temperatura dovuto a pioggia o temporali estivi, nella notte il termometro scende notevolmente e l’effetto termico genera un vento molto forte. Durante i periodi di alta pressione va sempre tenuto un occhio sul Garda, perché in qualsiasi periodo dell’anno è possibile fare una bella uscita.

Malcesine

E' probabilmente lo spot più rinomato per il Peler, dato che è fra i primi posti in cui entra il vento ed anche con una maggiore intensità. Unici inconvenienti sono la temperatura più bassa rispetto al lato occidentale e l’affollamento.
Condizione : mure a dritta, leggero da 5.7mq a molto forte da 4mq, con chop proporzionale all’intensità del vento.
Lo spot si raggiunge, da Torbole percorrendo la gardesana verso sud appena prima di arrivare a Malcesine si trova un ampio parcheggio.

Pra de la Fam
Il corrispettivo di Malcesine sulla sponda occidentale è il Pra’, a pochi chilometri a sud di Campione, proprio di fronte al hotel Al Pra. Qui il vento tende ad entrare più tardi e spesso è necessario che esca il sole per riscaldare lo spot ed avere il vento fino a riva. Anche qui l’affollamento è notevole.
Condizione : mure a sinistra, leggero da 5.3mq ma è al meglio con vento forte, il chop è discreto e nell’inside si può fare dell’ottimo freestyle.
Lo spot si raggiunge scendendo da Riva del Garda lungo la gardesana occidentale, pochi km dopo Campione sulla destra dopo una galleria si trova l’albergo Al Pra.

Castelletto/Crero
Quando il Peler è particolarmente forte, specie dopo un temporale estivo a cui segue la “mitica” , botta da Nord, a Malcesine il vento può essere molto rafficato o fotonico, mentre qui è ben disteso e l’uscita può essere fantastica.
Condizione : i due spot offrono condizioni simili e sono l’ideale con vento da 4.2/4.7mq, mure a dritta e chop ben formato perfetto per saltare.
Lo spot si raggiunge proseguendo la gardesana orientale verso sud per alcuni chilometri si trova Castelletto di Brenzone e ancora più giù, qualche km prima di Torre del Benaco si ha la piccola località di Crero.

Toscolano
Capita a volte col brutto tempo e forti correnti da Nord che al Pra il vento rimanga lontano da riva, allora conviene fare i pochi km verso sud fin qui
Condizione : l’ideale è il vento molto forte (dalla 4.7 in giù), buono per saltare mure a sinistra e fare freestyle nell’inside.
Lo spot si raggiunge entrando in Toscolano e girando alla prima a sinistra all’inizio del rettilineo.

Desenzano
Altre volte il nord è così forte da distendersi su tutto il lago, raggiungendo anche la costa sud. Condizione : se il vento è abbastanza forte si crea un moto ondoso fino a 2 mt, con caratteristiche da wave on-shore, picchi perfetti per saltare mure a sinistra.
Lo spot si raggiunge, guardando il lago con Desenzano alle spalle, l’estrema sinistra della baia denominata Desenzanino.

Two are the main winds on the Garda Lake : the Ora from south and The Peler from north.

The Peler

It blows from north and belongs from the termical night’s gap of the valley where’s the lake and the mountains behind it. It starts at midnight and last till eleven o’clock a.m. The clean sky with no clouds helps to make it stronger while the sun warms up the land. The strong termical gap required can be even a consequence of a tipical summer event : a strong rain fall followed in few hours by a return of the sun.
Average 20/25 knots, but sometimes can reach 30 kn., so condition goes from 5.3mq freestyle to wave on-shore with chops as ramps for jumping. Only the part of the lake that is in the Tentino Region has a gusty wind with jumps in the direction, while both sides of the rest of the lake have got many serious spots.
The classic peler of the morning with average force is mostly rided in the two most knewed spots : Malcesine (eastern side, Verona’s county) and the Pra (western side, Brescia’s county ), going south the wind gets lighter close to the shore. Sometimes the wind is better on the lower side of the lake, mostly after a summer rain, in the night the temperature sink and the wind generated is very strong.
So with High Pressure always check the Garda lake, because all around the year it’s possible to have a good sailing time.

Malcesine most probably the most knewed spot for the Peler. Infact is the first place where the wind blows and higher than the other spots. Crowded and colder than the other side.
Condition : right side wind, from light 5.7mq to very strong 4.0mq, with growing chop.
It can be reached from Torbole going south on the coast line road.

Pra de la Fam
Just few km south of Campione, right in front of the « Al Pra » hotel. Here the wind blows later than Malcesine and the sun is required to have it since from the shore. Crowdy.
Condition : left side wind, from light 5.3mq to very strong, the chop is nice and the inside is perfect for freestyling.
It can be reached from Riva del Garda going south on the wetern coast line road, few km after Campione, coming out from a tunnel you’ll find the « Al Pra » hotel.

Castelletto/Crero
When the Peler is really strong, specially after a summer rain, in Malcesine the wind is nuclear or gusty, while here can be perfect.
Condition : right side wind with nice chop, perfect with the 4.2/4.7mq
It can be reached going south on the eastern coast line road for few km until Castelletto di Brenzone and lower, some km before Torre del Benaco you’ll find the village of Crero.

Toscolano
With bad weather at Pra the wind those not blow close to the shore so it’s better to come here
Condition : left side wind, better with wind higer than 4.7mq, the chop is nice and the inside is perfect for freestyling.
It can be reached getting in Toscolano and turning left at the beginning of the strait way.

Desenzano
Sometime the wind is so strong that blows even on the south shore of the lake.
Condition : left side wind, wave till 6 ft. for on-shore jumping.
It can be reached, looking at the lake with Desenzano behind us, going on the left side of the bay called : Desenzanino.
