El Cotillo - Fuerteventura

L'isola di Fuerte, seconda per grandezza nell’arcipelago delle canarie, è completamente brulla ed offre paesaggi pieni di vulcani non più attivi ed immense pianure desertiche. I due paesi principali dell'isola sono la capitale Puerto del Rosario, al centro della costa Est, quella rivolta al Marocco, e Corralejo a Nord-Est . Per il resto moltissimi paesini stile Mexico con case basse e bianche.

Il clima è di tipo subtropicale desertico, dista infatti solo 84 km dal continente africano. Le temperature variano poco durante il corso dell’anno, in estate fra i 24/29 °C, ed in inverno tra i 21/27 °C. La temperatura dell’acqua è 18/23 °C. La scarsa umidità dell’aria rende l’arcipelago ideale per i soggetti allergici ed asmatici.
I mesi migliori per il vento sono da Marzo fino a metà Agosto, periodo in cui gli alisei da nord dominano. Ovviamente il resto dell’anno è più adatto alla pratica del surf da onda.

The island of Fuerte, second largest of Canaries, is completely bleak, with sleeping vulkans and larges flat deserts. The main towns are Corralejo on the north-east shore and puerto del Rosario, the capital on the coast facing Marok, the east one. Hoses are low and white, mexico style.

The weather is a typical desertical subtropic, as the africa is so close, no more than 84 km. Temperatures varies little during the year; 24/29 C° the air in the summer, 21/27° at winter time. The water 18/23 C.

Per quanto riguarda gli spot da surf da onda, basta andare sulla west o north shore e ne troverete a bizzeffe.
Da segnalare Glas e Drop beach, a pochi minuti da Corralejo. Questi ultimi due lavorano bene nel periodo invernale.

El Hierro - Diviso in 3 wave spots :

1. El Hierro Derecha - The Bubble

Probabilmente la più conosciuta e fotografata onda di Fuerteventura. Una destra ripida con eccellenti pareti destre ed una ripida e breve sinistra. Potente e su poca acqua. Un vero spot spacca tavole.

2. El Hierro Izquierda - Hierro
Una lunga potente sinistra con due picchi utili a distribuire la folla. Con il giusto swell o in quelli ventosi è una dello onde più divertenti che si possa surfare. Rompe in acqua abbastanza profonda. Buono con tutte le maree.

3. Derecha de Aleman - German Rights
Chiamata così perchè vicina ad una scuola surf tedesca. Lunga destra che rompe su due picchi che occasionalmente si uniscono per una surfata davvero lunga - eccellente dalla media marea alla bassa - simile a Majanicho.

5. Harbour Wall - sinistra, reef, per esperti
6. Shooting Gallery - sinistra, reef, per esperti
7. Generosa - sinistra, reef, per tutti

Abbiamo elencato solo gli spot più conosciuti, per serbare un certo rispetto ai locals e lasciare a tutti la possibilità di andare a scoprire la propria onda fra gli oltre 30 spot surfabili sull'isola.

El Hierro - Divided into 3 wave spots :

1. El Hierro Derecha - The Bubble

Possibly the most well known and photographed of Fuerteventura's waves.
An intense hollow right hander with excellent right hand barrels and short intense lefts. Powerful and shallow. A true board snapper.

2. El Hierro Izquierda - Hierro
A long powerful left with two peaks helpful in spreading the crowds. On the right swell and wind one of the finest fun waves to be had. Breaks in reasonably deep water. Good at all tides.

3. Derecha de Aleman - German Rights
So called because of the popularity of the german surf schools. another long right breaking in two spots which occassionally link up to give a long fast ride - excellent at low to mid tides - similar to Majanicho.
